I'm not sure why the maps app crashes every time it tries to load the map but it seems to only happen in the latest versions of the maps app. There must be some sort of software issue. I managed to fixed mine by just installing an older version of the maps app.
Maybe one day an update will fix it or maybe it, but until then you can just install this apk of Google Maps 8.0.0

Before you install it though, go to the Google Play Store and make sure that automatic updating is not turned on because if it is then as soon as you install the app, the Play Store will just update it.
